Idaho Rut Timing

I was in Idaho last year archery hunting during the last week of September.  Bulls were talking and herd bulls had there harems and were really hard to pull away.  Satellites would charge in quicker.

This year I have to hunt in early Sept. and myself I think it could possibly be better since big bulls should still be rounding up cows and not as herded up.  My hunting partner thinks it could be too pre rut and hates the idea.  Thinking nothing will be talking or rutting yet.  Anyone that has experience in Idaho high country chasing bulls have any thoughts?

I thought your take on it was spot on.

They should be looking for love in my opinion/past experience.

Early is good.  My experience is before the 10th talking can be spotty.  At the same time it may be the best time to take call in a bigger bull as stated above, they just aren't as vocal.  I think it's around the 10th plus or minus a couple days the big bulls will move in and take over herds.
