Hey guys I'm new to the forum. Was hoping to gather up some info about OTC hunts... I decided I want to do it on my own and was wondering what state is best for OTC tags regarding units and elk herd. Its just overwhelming researching all of this. I've found the good with the bad and no where really sticks out to me. I'd also like some info on lodging. I'm from Ohio so I'm not too familiar with this. Thanks for all the help!

a good break down is in the magazine and solohunter.com OTC bow tags are available in lots of states rifle only two states. all the hype is def new Mexico, Arizona and such but to get a tag there you best be lucky on the draw Washington Oregon Colorado Idaho all tag heavy easy to get archery some really great draw areas as well Wyoming Utah Arizona start building points to get in the good spots but you can bow hunt there with out a draw or in a area thats not popular with elk. dont forget kentucky always apply there for the draw its close!

OK cool I appreciate it. I think you got me narrowed down to Colorado at least now haha. I would love to hunt the rut with a bow but how hard is it to get tags for rifle? I'm really stuck on this because I love bow hunting but I almost want to go with a rifle the first time but If so I won't get the experience of elk in rut. And I've thought about trying to draw for Kentucky but after reading a bunch of guys talk about how they gave up because its so hard to get into, I just lost interest

I recommend going rifle hunting to learn an area then use what you've picked up to go bow hunting. Back country outfitters does a good job.

applying for kentucky is easy to do just have to be lucky its different hunt for sure try and find a area that offers a OTC First rifle season colorado has maps that tell you what season is open when and its color coated so fairly easy to fallow
