I hunt alone a lot and am gone for days. If I want to stay reasonably in touch with my wife, and for each of us to know how things are going, I have been limited in where I can hunt. I needed to be reasonably close to where I could get cell phone service. I always wanted her to know I was doing alright, or at least know where I was at, so they could recover me before the coyotes scattered my bones all over the forest. The thought of the buzzards picking out my eyes and guts first, just does not appeal to me.
Well a couple of months age I saw an advertisement in Field & Stream for the Delorme inReach satellite communicator. I purchased the lower tech model and now I have a communication link anyplace I can go to. I can silently send and receive messages anytime. I have three messages I can send endlessly that lets my wife and son know where I am and how I am doing, plus I can send other prepared or specific messages. I am thinking Oly can now find me before the coyotes, if he doesn\'t dilly dally along the way, getting to where he received my last message from.
Anyway if you need to communicate and don\'t want the expense of a satellite phone; after an initial investment of less than $300, you can go on pretty cheap. You can then laugh at the buzzards, but still don\'t drop your guard getting into or leaving your tree stand.

Yep, they are great!!!

I bought one last year and used it for two weeks in the CO wilderness. Also picked up a small solar charger to charge it up when I was out there.

Probably the best investment in hunting equipment I have done in a long, long time.

Wow, mine has been working like a champ. The first time I charged it I plugged it into the wall socket at the house and let it fully charge that way. Out in the field I hung it from my pack, or put it over my tent fly in the sun. This thing worked so good my son grabbed it from me to charge his phone. He plays College Baseball and sticks it in the window of the bus and runs a cord right to the phone. This way on his road trips his phone stays charged up the whole way while he is on it.

My unit has been charged a whole bunch of times and so far has worked great.
