This is horrible and did not turn out like I wanted to. My SLR is broken, so I am using my IPHONE.
I\'d almost rather call and let you hear this thing.... I love the way it sounds in person.

Let me know what you think.

I can make another if need be.

That actually sounds pretty good! Is that an open external reed or a bit and blow?
It\'s a bite reed. So bite and blow?

It sounds so much better in person, but I was just worried I wasn\'t sounding like an actual elk.

Are these proper chirps or mews?

Yes, you are getting very close. Here\'s an example of my calling. I\'ve extended each call so you can hear the pitch changes a little easier. This was done with a Sceery Ace 2(Bite and Blow).

Try to control the rasp at the end by feathering the let off.

Those sounds are a good start. You can make them a bit longer in length if you want.

Did you see this clip I made a few weeks ago?
You can make those same sounds with an open reed call

I can definitely practice that for a few days and make another video. I also have been practicing that method you talked about. Calling, then the next call I am cupping my hands around it to make it sound different, then back to a normal call.

Thanks Brad,

I will be sure to lengthen them. I was just imagining short mews or chirps, but I think dragging the length out will make it a bit easier for me.

I\'ll practice some more and maybe we can try this thread again next week :D

As you practice your calling, longer mews turn into whines.

Just imagine a child saying.....dad(chirp) or daaaad(mew) or daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaad(whine). If I remember right, Troy taught me that one.

I understand that perfectly! I can definitely practice that. I usually do it on the ride to and from work
I also like to practice when my dogs are around, they go nuts hahah

You should also pick up an internal reed. Why not start now? Get some of Troys calls. I\'ve tried every reed known to man, and I will never leave his at home. Don\'t get frustrated and don\'t get scared off if you start to gag. Gaging is not the reeds fault, it\'s your brain telling you to chew it or spit it out. The best time to practice is in the shower every morning. Start off by just chewing on the tape part of the reed. Seat it in the top of your mouth and just let it sit there. Eventually, start pushing air between your tongue and the reed.

Here try this... listen to each one twice then over and over. Analyze each part and mimic each part then put it all together.

Not yet John.
My days have been filled with work, school, prepping for my antelope hunt this weekend!
I\'ll be playing around with it this weekend after my hunts!

I\'ll make you new videos asap.
