I am not planning to hunt elk this year I'm point buying and re-gearing all the big ticket items however, i did see to apply to Kentucky elk hunt was 10$ its a 6 hour drive so i thought why not apply if i get it great if not whats 10 bucks. i doubt i get the draw but just in case i do does any one have any info on hunting elk in Kentucky?

South east kentucky is where you will find most of the elk.  Crappy thing like most every other states back east watch where you are, lots of private property and areas people dont want you in due to ginseng!  I have seen several on the WMA down by Hazard KY.

yeah looks like i need to wait to see where i might be drawn if i get drawn before i start fussing over it

If you gwt drawn ky will send you a list of outfitters theyre fairly cheap and if you get drawn for a ky tag you will kill a big elk.  They receive virtually no pressure here and are pretty easy to hunt. A good friend of mines nephew killeda giant 7x8 last year

very cool ill just be happy to get out that close to the house  6 hours over a 18 -30 hour drive makes a huge difference ill keep up dates on the draw if i get it ill be on here begging for more info a list of local guides would be awesome

I live in Kentucky and was drawn for an archery bull tag last year. Needless to say I walked away without filling my tag. I paid a guide 3500 and he sucked ass. So I wound up hunting on my own after I was done with him. I found out the elk are mostly on private property that the guides have leased or the people don't want you on their property. People down there are a bunch of damn weirdos. Then I talked to a guy one day on the public land around hazard and he said the elk down there get hammered. Legal or not. He said they barter with meat and antlers. Definitely a huge disappointment. Thought hunting elk in my home state would be a great experience and it wasn't.
