Has anyone ever hunted the Kootenai National Forest? Was thinking about checking it out if I don\'t draw my New Mexico tag?

Chase, seeing no replies, I\'m betting none of the guys/gals here can help out. Heck, I had to Google to see where it was!

Good luck on your NM draw.

Sorry, Chase, not familiar with the area, but I can assist with the NM part.
I\'m getting antsy... Only 7 more days

Chase, I also don\'t know of the area but maybe Gary (zpd307) does. I know he has hunted multiple areas in Idaho. He was on the turkey hunt, but maybe he\'ll chime in when he gets back.

My first elk hunt was in northern Idaho. Stayed in Noxon, MT and hunted Idaho. Brutal terrain and I\'ve heard the wolves have really hurt the elk population up there.

sorry, I have only hunted in the salmon challis national forest. and its big chunk of forest :D I too will have to look it up

The little bit of info I have found says there are elk. However I\'m sure it\'s nasty steep and it is supposed to be very thick woods. Just trying to get some info from someone who has put boots on the ground in the Kootenai.

If it\'s Idaho I\'d guess it\'s straight up and down and covered in wolves. At least that\'s my experience! The good part is there isn\'t nearly as much hunter pressure on the elk.
