Labor day weekend

Hello everyone, new member here. I am interested in people's opinion about where I should archery elk hunt this labor day. The wife and I want to travel about 4 to 5 hours from Denver.  Not looking for people's hot spots (said everyone haha) but really just general areas and I'll figure it out from there. I am doing an otc tag so I'll have to stick to those units.

Anywhere north of Denver is your best bet. No elk in the southern regions of the state.

so the southern region itis! haha just kidding, although I have covered a lot of northern colorado already and would like to see some new country. 


On a side note has anyone ever hunted near an active fire before?  I guess my thought process is that the fire would displace any animals within the burn area and force them onto land near the fire.  Increasing the number on animals in that land near the fire.  not sure if that makes sense or not but figured I'd ask.
