Last day Nebraska rifle buck

Back in the comfort zone on the family farm in eastern Nebraska for a week of rifle season with my son Kenny. We are fortunate to have some really nice timber / pasture / crop lands to hunt on my family\'s century owned farm. Bucks were running does all week and the time passed quickly for my son and I. Before we knew it we were down to the last day of the season and with a nice snow the day before we were anxious to see what the last day would bring. The morning hunt was good with 20+ does seen and a handful of bucks, just nothing big enough to consider. After lunch and a quick nap at the farm house we set up on a corn field bordering the timbered pasture behind the house that evening. After seeing 8 does and two small bucks we were getting close to prime time and out walks a nice doe trailed by the kind of buck we were hoping for. The shot would be 210 yards, Kenny was up to the task. His Savage 243 made quick work of the buck and he dropped where he stood. I think Kenny\'s smile says it all.

WOW!!!!
What a fantastic buck!!!!!

The smile says it all :upthumb:
I can\'t imagine how big yours was. ;)

Congrats to you and your son. :dance2:

Thanks!!! Since Kenny started hunting my duties are primarily as chauffeur, guide, tracker and pack horse for Kenny :upthumb: While I do have a doe tag (valid for archery, rifle and muzzelloader) I purchase one as the law requires that Kenny hunt with a licensed adult on his youth tags.

Excellent buck ... big bodied, for sure! Nebraska was kind to a lot of hunters this year.

It just don\'t get much better than that! Congrats to you and your son. Love that hat!

Congrats to Kenny! Your smile was probably as big as his!
We fathers that hunt with our kids know the sacrifices made during those early years of mentoring, but what cherished memories you\'ll have and a hunting partner for life.

Happy Hunting
Dan
