Last red before they cast

It's been a tough year down under on the reds but just as they're starting to cast I managed to take this old 7x7 bruiser. He's no NZ game park monster but for a born and bred free range animal with some age behind him it doesn't get much better!

That's sweet. What did you shoot him with bow or rifle? How is it hunting them? I didn't see that it was a stag at first and that it was the goofiest looking elk haha. Congrats on the kill.

Shot this bloke with the rifle, I do a bit of bow and blackpowder hunting but deer here get lots of pressure with a 12 month season so they're always on edge.

I love hunting reds, they're my favourite aussie game animal for sure, these older guys are crazy smart and it's rare to catch one out in the open like I did with him so it's normally still hunting in thick bush. The fog kept him out to first light this day which was his undoing.

He's far from my biggest but I just love an old deer with character!

I'll get one more hunt in October for sambar but my trophy hunting is pretty well done and dusted for this year so I'll be living through you guys until the end of January!
