With me moving soon, I want to do a nice target build for my next yard.
I\'m thinking some type of enclosure to put either hay bales in or whatever that compressed whitebox is that some people use. (cardboard?)

What do other people have?
What do you guys do?

Im not sure if I want to make one big enough for one target at a time or maybe a side by side.
When I say side by side, I am thinking a large bag type target or hard square target on one side and then a 3d deer on the other.

Input is gladly appreciated! :upthumb: Im hoping I can put this in for under $500, but I can be flexible if need be.

I built one years ago with cardboard boxes all of the same size. I stacked them on an oak pallet then sandwiched them together with a couple 2x6 boards on top and a couple on the bottom. I put half inch all thread between boards and tightened it down. I had a nice 36 inch square target and I could shoot at both sides giving it a long life. It worked great for aluminum arrows but when I shoot carbons into it the stick. It seems that the must go faster or create more friction which warms the glue up then glues the arrows in. I use a Block target now for carbons.

You may first try shooting at a temporary one, in case it is illegal in your town.

I never had a neighbor rat me out. I never could find anything online to tell me if it was legal, so of course, I decided to do it anyway. :shifty: I live within city limits. I know one Western city that it is illegal.

Thank you, everyone!
Ill start looking into these DIY products and I will definitely make sure it\'s legal :upthumb:

I have an excelsior bale. It has been sitting outside for 7-8 years with no bad effects. When it starts to get loose, I just soak it with a hose and it swells right back up. I\'d take a picture but it is buried under an eight foot snow bank right now.

Here is a video on that target I built.

I made mine non-portable, got everything but the paint for it for free.

Great video, thanks Don. :upthumb:

7-8 years sounds tried and true.
I hope everything melts for your soon, Bill.

I like the idea of building frames out of PVC pipe.

My buddy built one in his back yard when we lived in NC. He used old carpet he got for free from the carpet store, some all thread, a couple nuts 2 pieces of plywood. He put one piece of plywood on the bottom, drilled two holes for the allthread, then layered the carpet once he had the height he wanted put the other piece of plywood and then put the nuts on the all thread and tightened them down. When his arrows started to pass through he would either change carpet out or just tighten the nuts down a little more. He even went as far as to frame it in to keep it out of the rain.

Here is a pic to give you an idea. Not my buddy but a google image of a similar build.

my bowrange started building those..they usually buy prebuilt ones from Oregon.

finish it with a weed burning torch. they burn the front and backs to stop the fraying..and they coat it with some black tar like paint.
i think they need to cinch down tighter. the strap them and remove the all thread.

DAN. have you looked at BLOB targets. i think they are closer to FL than CA..shipping was a problem for me.

I\'m assuming your looking for field-points and not broad-heads?

I made a couple of these and they work incredible. Can only shoot field tips in them though.....

I just wanted to put a BIG THANK YOU out there to Don for sending me a target to build.
I am SUPER excited to get it set up and cannot wait to shoot at it. :upthumb:

Thank you again, Don!!!!!! :thewave:

No problem,

The target you have there is the bag they make. Just fill it up and either build a PVC frame or set it and shoot.

If it works and you like it you can always build a larger one after you move. The bag target is a great mobile target and I have been shooting for three years and its in great shape.
