Hey I have been looking into getting a lightweight hunting boot out there and need some feedback on what boot to go with. Under Armor Speed Freak, Irish Setter VaprTek, Danner Jackal, Salomon Speed Cross 3? Most of my hunts are day hikes in fairly steep country out on Utah's Wasatch Front. Cost is not a huge issue on my decision. I just want to shave weight and athletic boot and waterproof is a must.

any of them are gonna be a light boot the problem with them is when your side hilling and in steep areas or under load they wont have the support but  the trade off on good trails they arent bad and your feel you can almost  run i liked the speed freak out of all the choies only problem is water they arent very water proof

I love my Danners.  I haven't used the Jackals but my GTX Danners are great.

Like Cowboy said though, if you are going to be side hilling for extended periods of time they dont have the support.

I wear a danner pronghorn with the synergy footbeds, and they have worked great. They keep my feet dry and warm all year, but like was stated before if in steep country they don't have a lot of support and the Wasatch front is definitely steep. Look into the new Lowa Cevedale GTX they are supposed to be light weight and have great ankle support.
