No, I will not be eating dog food for all of you people who came in thinking that.

I am thinking about making my own dog food this year using some of the game that I shoot.
I\'d like to use as much of the animal as I can and I think this might benefit the household.

I haven\'t worked numbers yet or even worked out what my recipes will be, but there are a lot out there.

Has anyone else ever made their own dog food?

If not I will definitely make a thread about me going through the steps :dance2:

I know Pete has mentioned doing it before...?

If so, I hope he can send some feedback!

never made it, but, if you use meat make sure you cook it

I definitely will. I will let you guys know how it turns out.

That\'s a great idea Dan. Dog food is getting more and more expensive. The bag sizes get smaller and the price goes up. Go figure.
Help a brother out...if you get one Dan, overnight ship me the backstraps and tenderloins and my dog (me) will appreciate the heck out of that.
 You can bacon wrap them too if you like. My pooch would really enjoy that!

Deal!

I have been known to cook up the trim for my dogs on a deer...but they usually scarf that down in a couple of nights.

The recipe is simple...put the trim in boiling water until cooked, drain and remove, cool down and serve. I have two large dogs...it disappears in a matter of seconds.

Dogs are not getting the rest of it!!!

Does seem simple.

A lot of the recipes I\'ve been looking up are almost like a doggy \"meatloaf\'
It\'s basically cooking the venison ground with some veggies and maybe some lighter carbs.

That way you can keep it clean and reasonable in calories. :train:

I used to enjoy waterfowl hunting ... but never enjoyed eating ducks and geese.

I envisioned a machine that you could put a duck (or prairie dog or whatever) into, and push a button, and on the other side out would come dog food pellets.

I\'m still working out the details.

Take one pound of antelope meat and one can of Alpo and mix well. Maybe you dog will eat it and maybe he won\'t!

Do you think I don\'t care for the taste of antelope? LOL!!

lol I haven\'t had the pleasure of trying antelope yet, but from the sound of you post.....
Maybe I shouldn\'t be so excited to try it.

From the sounds of it I could be using the mule deer meat that I may get this year too as dog food. :dk:

When you have them on a production line, I will be your first customer!
