I have killed elk in the morning, midday and in the evening over the years. Over time, I have come to the conclusion I prefer evening kills.
This is especially true If the insects, including Yellow Jackets are bad, or it is hot out. Usually at night it is just me and the animal. It is peaceful and quiet. At night it can be harder to find a downed elk, and you have to keep track of your equipment, but it is easy to work quickly. I often pack out much of the elk the next morning.

What do you think? What time of day would you prefer to kill your elk?

I have always liked filling a tag in the morning since it gives you all day to get the meat out and taken care of. I feel rushed if it\'s an evening deal.

Like Derek said it is nice to have all day to get one out. But where we hunt it is hot out in the day time and I think the fly\'s must hear a arrow fly because I think they are all over a animal before it hits the ground. Just for the cooler temps and no bugs I like the evening the best.
