Must have comfort food in camp

This is spin off of the now completely off track elkmentors topic. Yea my mind takes off in odd directions, but it got me wondering what kind of camp food would require you to leave your undies behind (or leave your behind without undies). Ok, here is the leap.

What is your favorite, not good for you, comfort food when in camp? Is it fibrous chili? Pheasant enchiladas? Or??

One thing that usually gets me is the traditional double quarter pounder with cheese meal on the way up. Not to bad that day, but stand back about after leaving camp on opening day. I\'ve actually had Deer come in to check out the camo clad Sasquatch scratching a hole in the ground (if I have time). Leap over.

Last year I made a big bowl of homade salsa from the veggies out of my garden. I had chips and salsa the day before hunting. It taste great but it was warm. On both ends......

damn, you had me at comfort food, errr drink. although it doesn\'t leave with no undies, well not in the context that you speak of. vodka, never leave home without it :D

Chili is our devastator, but we typically try to follow it up the next evening with a Barley Hotdish, which we like to refer to as a**hole cement

I guess we\'re pretty simple then. Any time I camp I have this:

We have a pretty good menu in our camp. Nobody goes hungry and I don\'t think that anyone loses any weight during the hunt either! Bullnuts makes an excellent green chili slopper :)
Friday before the opener we\'ll eat a big bucket of chicken and all the fixins that KFC provides with the family meal.
I like to eat a bunch of elk during the hunt and will make several dishes with elk meat that I have cooked at home in the slow cooker. Elk steak prepared on the grill and baked potato is another fav with a side salad.
Biscuits and gravy with scrambled eggs after a morning hunt really fill a guy up and will hold me over until around 10:00 pm when we get back to camp.
One year I fried a turkey and we had stuffing, mashed potatoes & gravy. That was on the last night up in camp since we wanted to vacate before every bear in the area homed in us.
And everyone knows that food just taste better in elk camp :upthumb:

i live in earthquake land. i have a supply of emergency food stashed away. i never eat it cuz i have sworn off as much processed food as possible.

but at camp...hah. i will raid the coffers, and steal a can of................SPAM! pan fried spam \"steaks\" with scrambled eggs..ah, living.

it is truly amazing how much food you can eat, and not good for you food too..and come home and find that you still lost tons of weight. hiking hard with gear..it should be an Olympic sport.

yall are eating better than I do. I just do cold cuts mostly, maybe peanut butter. jerky an almonds. but I don\'t cook while im hunting

Every year we have a mandatory menu for the entire week. At the top of the list would be a full slab of baby back ribs wrapped in foil cooked on the grill for each person. Another favorite is homemade German sausage with eggs and hashbrowns. Also a fish fry or Rocky Mountain oyster fry for meal. Thick ribeye with asparagus on the grill, burgers or Brots, sausage gravy & biscuits are also always on the menu. Unless we are packing out meat we always do our big meals around noon and just do sandwiches and soup in the p.m. after dark. Man I love Elk hunting!

Dang Dave, that would make me absolutely WORTHLESS for an evening hunt, lol!! I would wake up in the middle of the woods and it would be dark.

Not a problem, we take snack stuff like spam singles or Vienna sausages (bull peter) in every evening to help keep us awake... ;)

Some of our best hunts have been in the evening, and we will walk out in the dark every night. No sleeping for us

Once again, Brad makes my mouth water with the walleye fillets  Brad, what do you fry them in just out of curiousity?

On a recent trip up to Canada, one of our guys did a shore lunch. Started out by frying up a couple packages of bacon, then added onion. The hors douvre was bacon and onion sandwiches...then the walleye fillets got cooked in the bacon and onion greese. Wow, was that good stuff!

I use CRISCO for oil [just like my last girl friend - fat in the can]
And I bread then with \'Shore Lunch\'

When I\'m solo, I don\'t cook either. Maybe boil water for tea, otherwise it\'s PB & bacon sandwiches, nuts, jerky, and fruit. But I do bake big batches of cookies and brownies before season...some to take with me, and lots to share. :)
