Here is the most recent picture of my big boy that I have been chasing...

Here are some others...

I want him so bad. He is a nice and mature buck. I will give it my all this season to track him down

Thank you Francis. I think right now I would just be happy to see him. I don\'t even care if I can get the shot off.
I would probably be speechless after seeing something like that in the woods.

I know what you mean Dan. I had one of the big 8s I was seeing at 70 yards in October and he would not come any closer. Bummed me out but was glad to see him. As far as I know he survived the rifle season. Maybe I will see him again now but it sucks hunting when its been so dang cold all ready.

That is sure a dandy buck!
You are correct in just seeing him would be an accomplishment

Keep at it!

I am not giving up, I still have plenty of season left. :upthumb:

I hope you see him again! I will tell you what, send some cold weather my way and I will send you some warmth. It\'s suppose to be up in the 70s this weekend...

I\'ll gladly send you some. I\'m planning on hunting thanksgiving morning and it\'s supposed to be 10 below in the morning. So any you send this we would be nice.

Thanks Jeff! I hope to have it happen.

I am looking forward to the cold weather Francis.

So here is what I am wrapping my head around guys.

This is the area that I have narrowed my big buck down too. It works because it has cover, water, food, and does....
The two green starts are the spot I found him first. Over the summer in velvet, he showed up four different times. Mostly early morning around 7AM.
Orange is where I picked him up in September. 8:30pm cruising from right to left on the map.
Next I picked him up November 14th in the purple star. This is when he was sitting at my camera at 8:30 am coming up from the lower ridge.
This is also where I found GIANT rubs that I knew only could be his.
Finally, Nov 22nd I picked him up going down into the lower ridge at 3:55am.

If anyone sees anything that jumps out to them, please let me know!

Dan, just looking at that aerial, is there any spots where you could get high to spot and stalk? I see a bunch of bald knobs and it seems like the area is fairly open with just scattered trees. If you could get high and cover some ground with your eyes, I think you would definitely increase your chances of finding him.

I also think that draw in between the green and purple stars could be a decent travel corridor for him. It doesn\'t look like there is any other good way in or out of that valley from the south, so if he is going back and forth I would think he would definitely be using that.

Good luck, can\'t wait to see the trophy pics with you and him!

Derek, there are definitely places that I can glass from up high and potentially spot and stalk in. It\'s definitely scattered trees out there, so I would need to very careful with my routes if I see him bed down. I know he probably spends most of his time in this area, I just am always so nervous about tromping through there and leaving my scent. I think what I may do Saturday is sit one of my stands early morning and then work my way out to a ridge in the morning (playing the wind) and glass for him and just watch. I still have plenty of time for my season. Maybe it would be smart to glass for a few days to see if I can find him.

I will also take a look at that draw you mentioned. Once I find him, I definitely want to make sure I find a great spot to build a natural blind and not be seen. I figure with a buck like this, I will have one shot and one shot only. I need to make it count.

Thank you for the info!

No problem Dan. I have never hunted whitetails, so take my advice at face value :D I just assume a lot of the same tactics used for mulies and elk have to apply.

I\'ve decided to add a little incentive to myself if I am able to bring this beautiful buck down.
I have a 34 year old bottle of scotch that is just sitting in my pantry unopened.
I have NO idea what to use it for, so if I get him, I am opening it :)

You guys wouldn\'t believe the story even if I told you. Good thing I have a bunch of pics to support it!

I\'m driving home to New Mexico as we speak. I\'ll be posting everything when I arrive!

Awesome, can\'t wait Dan!!! Maybe I should start heading south towards NM, a 39 year old scotch sounds pretty good... :D
