Our local FB has classifieds and I bought a Solar Shower today for $5.00. It had never been used but was missing the packaging. I washed it out and ran a full bag through the hose, refilled it and left it out in the sun for two hours. As the clouds came in this afternoon I went out to feel the water temperature.
Conclusion, I filled it up with cold tap water. The water that came out two hours later was too hot to shower under. I would have had to mix in cool water to make it safe. That was pretty impressive to me. I will absolutely use this thing in the woods at elk camp, if nothing else but to have hot water to wash my hands and face with at night. I could see the issue of it not being insulated and the water cooling in the evenings but I guess I could see myself on day 3-4 taking a midday shower. I have a couple old shower curtains I used for the toilet area/privacy so I may just have to use them for their intended purpose instead. I need to make something to stand on so I don\'t get muddy feet. Something like this:
I\'ll experiment with it to see how long the water stays warm after the sun goes down and measure the delta between max heat and a couple hours after sunset.
Not too bad for $5.00!
