I bought my daughter a guitar a few years ago, a Yamaha jr. I taught her some chords, and some easy songs (Pink Floyd, Wish you were here). Over the last couple years she\'d play around on the guitar for a week, then wouldn\'t touch it for a month...until this summer. She plays her guitar every day! A couple weeks ago she came storming into my office asking about bar chords and was getting frustrated. I showed her what she needed to know and off she went. Next thing I knew she had taught herself an entire Taylor Swift song (don\'t judge).

On the 4th she was messing around with a very simple chord structure with a not so easy strumming pattern. I asked her what she was up to and she said she was learning a new song. I caught her practicing last night...not too bad for nine!

That\'s sweet. I bought a guitar on deployment and never got that proficient :( My son plays the guitar and mandolin but not near as much since he got into shooting bow tournaments. I never understood how some people pick up one of those things and make it look so darn easy!
