my parents had a grocery store. they closed it, sold it and i went in a grabbed the old butcher table. i remember building my pine wood derby with the old man butcher when i was a tiny kid on that very table.
it was kinda a mistake. that table moved from place to place. super heavy, super useless in my tiny apartments. i rebuilt carburetors on that thing. i bet it is 50 years old.
well, my wife wants to use it. i stood next to it with a belt sander for about 10 seconds until i realized that was a dumb idea. i found a mill, and dropped it off today. they were loving my table top. vintage maple. they will take off 1/8 and they said it will look brand new. i\'ll but a modern 45 deg chamfer on it. it will be sweet!! (cost me $100)
so i had to fix the adjustable feet things on the table. rusted and frozen on. i used a bent pipe wrench and copious amounts of PBblaster. i laid the table on the side and stood on the wrench..one by one, i freed them!! you guys that know tables..3 free feet is enough to adjust the rocking table. i knew this going in..and i did the fourth foot..CRACCK!! NOOOOOOOOOO!!
i got a quote of $230 to weld it. hahahahhah..cast iron will look like hell. my friend finally called back and said he will do it, but it will look ugly..i opted for the $4.99 fix and used a pipe couple..had to trim the leg a bit to get it to the right length..
i think i\'m leaving it. country engineering. what a day.
