My first hog hunt

One morning, I heard some rustling of leaves and looked to my right and there stood a BIG black boar at 15yds

I shot him and down he went squealing.
I levered my gun to shoot him again but it jammed!
Up and off he went. Just a bit of blood and no hog

I bet he was a 300lber

One evening I over-looked this pond hoping hogs would come in to water and eat some corn we sprinkled around the edge

No luck

One morning as we were walking back, I spotted a coyote coming across the field.
We layed down and let him get close.
At 100yds he stopped and the 270 did its job

I did lots of hiking and ATVing around the ranch. Put 75 miles on my atv in 5 days.

Found this deadhead

In the meantime, a couple other guys had shot some hogs

One 300lb boar, one 150lb boar and a 60lb hog.

Saturday was my birthday and I decided to sit on a field edge, in a tripod blind and try that

Just before sundown, I saw a couple hogs come out to the east - 400yds away.
So I slipped out and walked along the fild edge to get closer

Closer

Closer

At about 100yds, I shot this sow

Heres one of the other boars a guy shot

It was fun, and true hunting. Using the wind, still hunting and watching field edges.

I liked it better than turkey hunting :)

That is awesome, Brad!!!! Looks like you had a great time.  :upthumb:
Nice job on the hogs and the coyote!

Are you going to start making this an annual trip? What part of TX were you in?

Awesome pictures Brad. Looks like you had a great time. Definitely a bucket lister for me.

Great story Brad. Hog hunting is fun for sure. You need to try it with a bow next time.
