do any of u all have any advise for post rut elk i am on the west side of WA they were going off the hook about 2 weeks ago and still making some noise but i feel it is winding down any calling advise or tips. I usually hunt early archery going a bit later this year thank you

In my area this late in the season im either sneaking in on the big one or calling in a satellite bull. almost no chance of calling in the big boy.

This time of year I would call if and only the elk are calling. I usually hunt the sencond week of October in Colorado and the elk are still talking a bit then, but it doesn't last long. I go spot and stalk and and don't ever usually call when searching. Have I done it in the past? You bet. But calling then is difficult as the larger bulls will begin to flake off and isolate them selves for recovery before winter sets in.

At most, I might give a cow call or two and then shut up when I set up to glass in the evenings, I have called in a few small bulls that way.

I recently read an article that recommended calling until November at least. It explained that unbred cows go into heat every 21days or so until early winter. I haven't tried it but it might work.
