A few buddies and I are planning on going to Montana in the fall of 2015. We want to hunt public land and camp in the area. What are some of the best units to hunt public land for archery? How hard is it to get a tag?
Im in the process of setting one up for this fall. It depends what type of hunt you are looking for. From the information i have gathered there are plenty of general tags left over as well as a surplus of cow tags. Hunters trail head is a good source to use to find statistics on draw odds. You can also use the montana fish & game website to find success rates in genetal units vs limited entry units. The limited entry units are available after recieving your genetal tag. The best area as far as most elk shot is region 3. Also some of the most intense hunting you could say as far as other elements are concerned.......grizz. Wolves. Ect. So I would recommened you decide. Or narrow down what type of hunt you are looking for and start from there.
