Just complaining ...

Cummins went \'thunk\' a few times ... looks like I need new injectors. :downthumb: :cry: :x

Pricey.

Not fun I had a 99 that I had to do all that stuff to it. But those years were notorious for fuel pumps going out. Good luck.

YUCK! Depending on where you live you might want to add Cetane Boost when you fill up. Colorado has low cetane levels in the fuel and most older diesels need that to lubricate the injectors. I add Power Diesel to my fuel every time I fill up. It\'s cheap insurance.

Thanks, Bullnuts. I\'m doing an informal poll about just such boosters ... I\'ll add your input to the mix.

Seems like most would say they wish sulfur was back in diesel to help lubricate.

I am not a cummins guy, powerstroke guy here. I hear you on the fuel thing. I have read much on the fuel lubricity thing. 2 stroke oil has the most bang for the buck. although I don\'t have to worry about that anymore, my new truck has the 6.2 gasser

i would like to say yes, but nothing drastic. maybe .5. truck ran a little quieter too. it was more for a piece of mind, with the lack of the extra sulfur. my old truck was e99 dually that would get 15.5-16 mpgs up to 70 mph, anything and the hips got in the way and brought the fuel economy down. i also ran a 6.0 and a 7.3 idi that i turbo\'d.

Sulfur would sure help. With all the anti pollution crap they put on diesel trucks anymore, it\'s not worth running them. Fuel and maintenance costs are way too high to justify the occasional heavy towing. I have a 6.0, which I consider to be the biggest mistake Ford has ever made, which adds to my misery. I\'ve replaced the EGR cooler, oil cooler, FICM, alternator twice, and the FICM is going bad again after only 2 years. It\'s a poorly designed system that can be fixed, but only at the expense of a lot of after market improvements. And now, with the additional exhaust gas fluid that they make every new diesel run, the cost of maintenance has gone up again. My next truck will be a gasser, for sure, and after this 6.0 experience It\'ll probably be a Ram.

I put a little over 40k on my 6.0. the only issue was the typical stuck turbo. i enjoyed the truck but was glad to not have worry about the typical 6.0 stuff. i do miss the torque though...

I just went through some new power stroke issues this past week. I\'m wondering if they named it power stoke because of what it is or what it does. Anyway, after blowing all kinds of nasty gunk and not having any power, I finally found a bad EGR valve. Replaced that and got the truck running good again but it\'s just a matter of time. Thinking about the 6.4 Ram gasser as the new and improved huntingmobile.

I have a 1997 powerstroke, here a good site that has a lot of info. I usally just do a search and you can found out about the problem you have;

Have you already done the injector thing? I\'m dealing with some sticktion issues too, and just ordered a couple bottles of Rev X. It\'s supposed to clean the injectors on the oil side and get them properly lubed up. It\'s expensive stuff and almost 70 bucks for 8 ounces, but I figure if it cures the issue it\'ll be a heckuva lot cheaper than replacing injectors. I\'ll let you know how it goes. By the way, you might want to check your EGR valve too before you replace injectors. It can get dirty in a hurry and will give a lot of the same symptoms as bad injectors will - lack of power, smoke, etc. Take it out and clean it, install new seals 8 bucks at Napa, and put it back in.

When the body falls off that 7.3, keep the engine and put it in your next truck! Every diesel engine made since 2003 has been a POS.

I have a 2001 Dodge Hi Output Cummins with somewhere over 200,000 miles... It still runs great but I do add some homemade addative from time to time.... 10 to 20 gallons of bio diesel.... ;) ;) It does a good job of cleanin\' and lubercatin\' everytin\' includin\' injectors... :mrgreen: :mrgreen:

Just an update on Rev X! Incredible, incredible, incredible!!!! This stuff works great! Two bottles at almost 70 bucks and I\'m thinking I just bought some snake oil, but I put them in, cranked the engine, listened as it smoothed right out, and then hit the road. Within the first 100 yards I could tell that the truck was running better. After the next mile, it was running like new! I had read a bunch of reviews on this stuff and figured I would have to see it to believe it. And now I believe. I\'m not sure what they put in it, but it healed my 6.0 and it\'s running great again. I\'ll be buying two more bottles next month to have on hand when I do my next oil change. It\'s expensive, yes, but way less than buying new injectors. John, you gotta try this stuff before you drop the bucks!
