my friend called and told me of a rumor. rumor has it that you can go to the F&G site, log on and try to buy a general license.

if you are prompted by a warning that you cannot buy a new license because \"you already have one\"..it is a good indicator that you drew a tag.

i cannot confirm any truths to it..but he cannot buy a tag, and i am allowed to. doesnt bode well for me and my hunting party.

whatever..sour graping it right now..but again, i cannot confirm any of it.

I just looked at mine and it shows the \" ineligible or conflict with currency purchase\", looking at my purchase history it shows I made a purchase of the license on Saturday the 19th.

I was buying into the back door stuff as well. I even scheduled my vacation for a Colorado elk hunt on Monday because I could add a license to my cart. Last night I looked and mine still said pending. This morning I got an email stating that I\'m a Valles Caldera winner.
I feel sorry for those of you who didn\'t draw because I knew I was a bit disappointed when I didn\'t draw New Mexico. I still feel sad that now my son/hunting partner will get his Colorado hunt shortened considerably since we will focus on me first. But I\'m happy for my good fortune, that I\'ll add new mexico to the list of states I\'ve hunted in, see more beautiful country and hopefully see more than the five elk I\'ve seen in Colorado the last two years.

Got my valles rejection but did indeed draw unit 36, now I get to restart my planning from scratch.

My buddy i took to CO last year drew 13 with his dad. Group app for 6 tags. talk about bucking the odds. Told him to do lots of scouting for me, he owes me.

Wow! Congrats, Dan! Valles Caldera is an amazing place. Although I haven\'t hunted elk there, I won lottery turkey hunts there twice. Practically tripped over elk both times. Saw at least a couple hundred elk between the two hunts. I\'m sure the elk will be more wary come fall, but you should see a lot more than five of them! No guarantees, of course, but the VC staff know where the animals are and they\'re great about putting hunters in hot spots. Plus, it\'s awesome having a little sub-unit to yourself. That alone is worth it. I hope you have a great hunt!

Congrats on that draw ABQ, I don\'t see too many others as a whole on the web posting success for NM draw this year. I did see there was an increase of nearly 10,000 applicants this year for NM. With all the turmoil amid the tag issues it surprises me there was an increase, even so I feel that much more fortunate, best wishes and heres to a good cold snap September 1.

Congrats ABQ_Chica! Now the anticipation, getting ready, daydreaming and waiting for the hunt date. I think that alone is worth the cost of the license. Then the icing on the cake becomes the actual trip, beauty of the area, the challenge and time spent with your hunting partner(s).
