I just got a ruger security six .357. Im going to start packing it during hunting season and camping/hiking. Im trying to decide on a holster. Do you guys use hip holsters or shoulder holsters? If you use shoulder holsters are they vertical or horizantal carries? Can you tell pros and cons of the things you use?

depends on what i am doing with a pack on i carry a hip holster fixed to my pack waist belt day bag i use a clip holster that hooks to my shoulder strap.  on a hike i prefer my shoulder strap vertical what ever is most comfortable to you, practicing will help you decide great pistol by the way super accurate

I hunt/live/hike in bear country and bought a .357 for that reason.  I looked for a long time before I finally settled on a holster that I could wear with or without my pack.  I stumbled upon Crossfire Holsters out of Idaho.  I opted to go with a cross draw.  It's a pretty cool setup and seems to fit my needs.  I can wear it on a belt if necessary or with the shoulder sling, under my pack.  While I haven't hunted with it I have worn it several times under a pack without problems.  Also, the guys at crossfire were great to work with.  The first holster I ordered didn't fit quite how I wanted, so I sent an email and they shipped two more right to my door.  The email said to just return the ones I didn't want, pretty amazing if you ask me!  They also have some great accessories that can attach directly to your holster.  Hope this helps.
