New to Elk Hunting

Hey Everyone,
I'm looking to take my first elk this upcoming 2015 season. I would like to go to Colorado around Pagosa Springs as I think this holds some good numbers of elk. I'm looking to do a DIY hunt seeing that this will be all I can afford. Was wondering if anybody had some access points to set up camp and hunt out of. I live in PA. so being able to scout is not a possibility. Just looking for a starting point to camp and then look at maps to get familiar with the area. Any help would really be appreciated. Thanks.

check out powderhook .com they have a search that might get you close it will def show you all the close public ground.

cool, thanks. So, on Co. public land, can you camp anywhere? I know here in PA, on state land you have to camp in designated areas.

each area has different rules once you find a couple areas you want to hunt you will have to look up the rules for that area
