Hey fellow elk hunters, my wife and I just moved to Utah back in August. I was unable to hunt last season and now that I am a resident of this great state I am excited to chase elk here. We live up in the north part of the Cache Valley and I was thinking about archery hunting  up here in the North Cache elk unit. What are your guys thoughts? Any other suggestions of units. I'm a meat hunter first so I won't think twice of shooting a spike every year or even a cow. Don't get me wrong if I can let and arrow fly one a nice bull I would in a heart beat! I'm not asking for you guys to give up your secret spots or anything like that. Just looking for a little help in picking a unit to start to the fun scouting process! Any help is much appreciated!
Thanks

The general archery elk hunt is a great time.  If you decide to hunt in central or southern Utah I will be glad to give you a few areas to look over.  PM or email me.
Good luck. SS

I live in Utah from 2001-2012 for military service.  I always hunted the Unitas and managed to punch my tag.  The state has some fantastic deer hunting.  I really liked the late Wasatch hunt.

Also when you get the opportunity hike up Willard Peak and watch the mountain goats.

There's a great archery shop in Centerville called Wilde Arrow.  Jeremiah know ha stuff.

Maxhunter thanks for the great advise! I have seen a couple nice mule deer the little bit I've been able to get out lately. I will have to check into the Unitas and that Wasatch hunt you are taking about. Looking forward to hiking Willard Peak to check out some mountain goats! Thanks again, hope your new home provides you with the good opportunities Utah did!

Jkurth07 I grew up just West of Cache valley and have hunted up there for a number of years. Everywhere on the North and South Cache are limited entry so if you're looking for branch anterled bull you'll have to head to the uintas or the extended archery areas.

If you're just looking to shoot a cow or spike I would go to the south cache areas first. From my experience there are higher numbers of elk on the south side. North Cache can be tough.
