Well, today was a strange one:

Relatively windless, and

I got done with my chores earlier than expected, so ...

I did some work with a compound bow and a Ruger in .308.

Results:

Bow is \"On\" to 50, with broadheads right with the field points (Viper Tricks, like the last couple years).

Rifle is \"On\" ... so-to-speak ... 1\" to the right at 125 yards with bullets within 1\" and sometimes 1/2\" during the sighting-in process.

I\'d say I\'m \"Minute-of-elk\" with both.

Now ... Pronghorn (archery) and maybe cow elk (rifle) this weekend!

Windless days are very rare around here and I try to take advantage of them when trying to get my bow sighted in as well. Gotta love the Slick Trick brand of broadheads. They make tuning your bow so much easier due to how well they fly.

NICE!!!

really nice!! i often joke that i wished elk were jet black and had a big 5\" diameter circle right over the vitals..like a hunter range target..but no. and the foot placement is rarely shoulder width apart, etc..and the shot is always uphill/downhill..its almost dark..and raining..and

hunting is awesome. i love the moving target aspect of it all. nothing is normal..ever.

Good job partner!
I cant wait to video your hunts this Saturday

The good news was that \"seated\" and \"standing\" shots were identical (archery) ... which should make that pronghorn go quickly.

John, what kind of elk tag do you have where you can hunt with a rifle this early? I have heard you mention it before so just curious. Good luck this weekend!

It\'s a private land, cow-only tag ... the season starts August 15 and goes to the end of the year ... but with hay on the ground, the elk like that new growth, and they\'re there, or near-by.

The trouble is that everyone else has hay down now, too, and there\'s a lot of human activity with all the hay production in the area, so the elk are getting pushed around a lot, and it\'s a crap-shoot on whether they\'ll be on the ranch.
