poor mans elk

i love elk hunting more than any critter i chase. that being said I cannot afford to hunt them every year as of yet( im working on it ) but for a similar feel to a good elk hunt i run and gun turkey anywhere they allow me to hunt them. calling, stalking, working the timber hiking deep into the brush for the unharassed bird. circling, dropping, and back decoying. now im a simple Missouri boy who does well with public land turkey hunting and does fair with public land elk hunts i like to think one helps the other is there anyone else who does a similar thing?

Well... I get to hunt elk every year, but do hunt Turkeys in the spring and see a lot of similarities.

were Im from elk hunting is way cheaper than hunting turkey so I have to just stick with the elk and Im ok with that But yes I do see allot of similarities in the calling part .

After living on the Central CA coast for many years with large numbers of turkeys, I rarely go turkey hunting anymore now I'm in NM. Very few,and far between. They even have a draw.....
As much as I loved turkey hunting,I just go elk and deer hunting instead now.
