Has anybody tried shooting broadheads into a pile of sand?  I just read about this, but hadn't heard of it before.

Sounds like a fast way to dull them. Unless you have replacable blades. I only shoot broad heads when I am getting ready to hunt to make sure every thing is working as planned. Final tuning ...

Haven't heard about it. Not sure what benefit it would have compared to a block target or 3D target. I don't think I personally would shoot at sandas it would dull the crap out of the blades and the friction of the sand on the carbon fiber arrows would start to possibly damage them.

Works just fine, it dulls the broadheads just like shooting any target, need to re-sharpen or replace no matter what target you shoot broadheads into. However the advantage of sand is it doesn't wear out like a target. I made a little stand for paper then shot through the paper into the sand pile. Works good if there is a sand pile around or you can get sand inexpensively.

All that said - I much prefer a target so haven't used sand in quite a while.

If you were shooting fixed blades that have a practice version, I would just use those. save you from having to buy more sharp ones. I think sand would take to much off of sharp fixed blade heads.
