Quartering to You.

With the new bows on the market being more efficient than anything before them I'm wondering  how many people are starting to get comfortable sticking elk through the scapula while they are quartering to them. I can say that no matter the bow I'm shooting I don't think i could ever bring my self to being comfortable taking this shot.
Funny thing is I'm seeing more and more people on TV taking this shot. Just curious as to what all you guys think.

Quartering away or flat broadside for this guy!

I still do not think it is a good idea. Most of the bows out there will not penetrate or just bounce off and cause injury to the animal. It is way to risky. I know a guy who took that shot and ended up getting the bull but not for a few days when he found it with it's leg broken and suffering. Not for me.

It's a pass for me.  Yeah the new technology is pretty amazing, but not worth risking losing an animal over.  I'll wait for my comfortable shot or pass.

I have noticed TV folks taking those shots also. They do say not to do it and most shots are taken at close range, 10-15 yards.

I would say every shot needs to be called at the time,it can depend.in a tree stand or if you are up hill shooting down you will hit high on the shoulder and the bone is verify thin there.I shot my elk guartering to my this year, and I was steep up hill from it but I did shoot it higher and back alittle.took out a main vesel and one lung, down in 60 yards.as you can see from this pic it makes a good size hole, the arrow was in all the way to the fletchings but puled out when he hit the tree.

Looking at the size of that animal and that tiny looking arrow, it is amazing that the mighty beast can be slain....What an awesome acomplishment...Well done Turbo

I have seen many bulls fall to a quartering to shot. The key is to aim in front of the shoulder instead of behindit.
As with every shot, discretion must be made as to the circumstances...
