i have a drop camp trip planned for the 2nd Elk season in Colorado next year and was wondering if anyone could give me their ideas on which sleeping bag I should have? Didn't know which brand or which temperature rating to get and didn't want to go buy one  without some input. Thanks

I have a Big Agnes Lost Ranger 15 degree with treated down (downtek) I love the bag but for me I got cold when the temps got down to 20 degrees. As long as I put a base layer on I was fine. Good luck in your search.

i would research a good 0 degree bag and get a fleece or silk liner for it to take it to even a colder temp if needed it gives you options colder or warmer

Big Agnes is great (also a CO company), but they do NOT put any down fill in the back side/bottom of their bags. The idea is that they have a sleeping pad sleeve built into the back of the bag and that is where you get your ground insulation from. The thought is that compressed fill has no loft to retain heat, so BA thinks there is no benefit in filling the back.

I personally really like Marmot bags for down. In 2nd season in CO, it can be really cold and snowy depending on the elevation and weather, so I would plan on a 0 or -5 degree bag. Like Cowboy said, a good liner can go a long way in bridging the gap between just surviving the night and actually being comfortable.
