Hi, I am new to this forum so if this is in the wrong spot please let me know and I will fix that, Thank you!

I am planning to go elk hunting sometime in the near future and I have done research on "the best calls" and have decided that a reed call is the avenue I want to take, but I have a problem. I have a retainer that sits in the roof of my mouth, and if I remove the retainer I am missing my two lateral incisor teeth, the two teeth right after the two front teeth on the top row, and I won't be able to get implants for awhile. I have not tried a reed call, which is why I am asking. Get the smallest reed and try with the retainer in, or by taking the retainer out will the missing teeth be a problem with the air escaping?

Thank you all for your help!!

I think you might be ok taking the retainer out, as it seems usually the roof of your mouth seals the air needed to make the reed work. Good luck and let us know how it works out for you!

Ah sweet!! I will for sure let you know! Gona grab some tomorrow. Will for surelet you know how it's goes. Thanks again for your advice!

Tim - I think from the standpoint of a minimal area for the retainer that the Bugling Bull Mini-Master Single could be a great option from a diaphragm call standpoint. It's got the built in tone top and it's built with a smaller frame ideal for tall and narrow pallets. Of course the open reed of the Temptress or the Who's Yrr Daddy would be perfect options as well.

Check the Elk101 Store for these calls. Hope that helps and good luck on your hunt!!

Thank you for the advice ktown!! I will for sure look into it. I bought a primos sonic dome, size small, and without my retainer it works. I haven't mastered it yet, but it works with the two missing teeth. I will look into the other options you gave me!

Thank you all so much for your help!

You should be fine with taking it out. I have a friend with the same issue, and it comes down to exactly what Ruttin said with the roof of your mouth sealing it just fine. Good luck the reed option is the best avenue you could take IMO.

I have been practicing all week.
I found out I can also leave in my retainer, I have figured out that the retainer doesn't sit far enough back, so I am able to put the reed behind it, but it sounds way better without it. Thank you again for all your help!
