ARGH!! had the wind perfect. perfect!
got up to the scoping sight in the dark and nibbled on nuts up there while the sun came up. we beat the deer there.
perfect placement. anywhere the deer showed up, we could back down the small intermediate hill and scoot to intercept. we had located the biggest deer on the ranch three times now. i let my party go first and we already had deer down. lots of meat, zero pressure on me. i didnt need to get a deer anymore. but when we found Mr Big (not big at all, but the rest of them were kinda small it\'s all relative) he was with a spike and five doe. 540 yards. i needed to make about half of that go away, so two of use boogied down the hill as planned. we left my brother with the spotter to give us hand signals. i got to 220 of the deer and i realized my mistake.. the sun crept up and blinded us. looking thru the rifle scope was futile..plus my big old face lit up like a roman candle and i watch that deer leave me forever. i forgot to consider which way the sun came up over the mountain. the next day we did the same thing and posted up where the sun would come up over our backs and we would see less perfect wind, but it would-should not be picked up by the deer.
this was a wonderful trip. the two deer down was a result of us three coming up with a game plan and executing perfect.
i\'m home now. just pulled up and washed my truck, did laundry, washed my pack (blood, dirt, sweat, maybe some tears), cleaned my yard, cleaned my quail better, put away my meat..i am bushed. what a long drive!!
