Rub photos

Do you guys buy into the rut rub vs velvet rubs? Had a guy mention to me this year that he hadn\'t seen any rutting rubs. He described rut rubs as being more intense, more angry. Often knocking the tree down, etc.

Imo there is a difference.
And just for the reasons you mentioned, velvet vs rut.
There is about a 2 week difference between the two

I\'ll post some pics when I get back home

+1 on CNELK. I too believe there\'s a difference.

Not sure I\'d label rut rubs as more intense but it could be an indicator. I find it can be very difficult to tell the difference but here are the general guidelines on how I determine it to be a rut rub.

It\'s middle to the end of September and......

1) .......the rub has fresh, flowing sap.
2) .......the branches knocked off still have fresh, moist, and green pine needles.
3) .......the rub was not there the day before.
4) .......there\'s fresh scat around the rub.

My 2-cents!

To be sure, I need to see the velvet hanging on the rub tree or bush. If it is late September or later and I see a very fresh rub and no velvet, then to me it is a late rub.

I found this yesterday. If you look closely it\'s 4 rubs.

I\'ve never seen rubs like those 3 together before.

Within a 100 yard radius I found 22 trees ripped up.

Here\'s one I came across in Aug. Probably the biggest rub I\'ve ever seen
