Shoot or pass?

You've snuck your way up to a meadow edge and have a few elk out in front of you.
The wind is in your face, but it's been a little swirly earlier in the day.

This bull is 26 yards away and you're not sure what general direction he will be heading.

Given the current position, are you shooting or passing?

Bow hunters?
Rifle hunters?

If you do shoot, where are you aiming?

For me I'm not shooting the bull with my bow. The big old cow might be in trouble with a meat hunter behind my bow.😉

For the bull, I'm shooting! I'd aim just up a little bit up into the dark mane and to the left of center to avoid the breast plate. But 26 yards as you have suggested is about the max that I would try this shot.

If a cow tag is all I have in my pocket, either one of the cows would work. I'd aim just behind the crease in the lower third of the body. P.S. I'm not a fan of the so called "V" shot placement! The "V" is a good killing shot but why waste a perfectly good shoulder roast!!!!

Archery - For me not having experience in the frontal shot and having a softball size target 26 yards is to far. If it was under 15 I would shoot. Right now I'm playing the waiting game to see if I can get a broadside or quartering away.

Don't own a rifle so hes safe from me.

8? into the dark main dead center. Doesn?t matter if it?s a ViperTrick or Scirocco out of the .300 SAUM, that bulls in trouble.

Rifle: If I had the tags I shoot all 3... ;-) ;-) Not really but the bull would be in trouble...

Archery: Back in the day when I shot a lot I'd most likely put one in the tennis ball of the bull...

Rifle is a definite, arrow I?m pretty confident I would shoot but that would be based on the fact that I had been practicing a lot and that my nerves were steady. If I had any doubt I?d either not shoot or take one of the cows.

Archery, I?m shooting that left cow first.
Then, I?ll cow call/bugle real quick to stop the bull and shoot him too :)

I?d laugh if I hadn?t seen you do it before!

Thump!  Dead bull.  I shot my bull this year from almost that exact same angle from 35 yds.  Love frontals

OTC tags? or limited entry tag that took 20 years to draw?  OTC = Dead Bull!!  Limited entry unit , lets wait for a little bit bigger bull!    Good mental preparation here!

Ive yet to get a shot opportunity on an elk, but since I?ve been elk hunting I?ve improved my shooting immensely. I?m pretty confident I can make that shot on a bull. Just a little left of center at the bottom of the dark brown.
