Shoot?

The bull is bedded 14 yards away, calm, but the wind is about to shift.
You are behind a good tree that has a V in it. You can draw behind the tree and slowly creep to the center of the V allowing the shot.

It\'s around 9am and the thermals are going to switch soon on you. The bull just bedded down.....

Are you shooting or is he getting a pass?

wait.
He is at full alert at something to the left.

Once he either stands up or turns his head, draw and whack him

Based on how this guy is sitting, I\'m thinking you could slip one right in that red dot and do a bunch of damage. If you have a rifle, you could also go for the head shot at that distance, but I\'m not a big fan of that personally.

Nope! That bull is buggy eyed. He has something bothering him. Maybe he heard you fart. Anyhow, wait for him to turn his head and settle down.

With a rifle that is a slam dunk right under the jaw bone. But you will pass thru and ruin some meat on the shoulder and backstrap. I\'d still wait even with a rifle!!!

I\'m waiting. I don\'t feel comfortable with that shot at that angle. Maybe throw a rock to the left if he doesn\'t get up soon as my nerves will be a wreck if I have to wait too long. I would be shaking like Gary. :p

The picture is hard for me to determine the angle of that bull and I am looking on my phone. I probably shoot but based on what I see on my phone....I am not shooting the red dot.

IF... I was to shoot with that posture, I would put the arrow right under his jaw

Archery: A lot of bone in the way with the shot you have now... I would wait...

Muzzle loader: Same as archery...

Rifle: Same as muzzle loader...

I haven\'t gun hunted so its archery for me.

I would not take this shot, just don\'t like the angle and the way hes bedded. Its one of those things that if I don\'t feel comfortable, I just wont shoot. Probably costs me a lot of animals, but probably saves me from loosing them to.

I think I\'m going to hold off... If I can... That shoulder blade is farther forward than on a standing animal. My archery set up just isn\'t enough on shoulders..(experience speaking) Brads dot is real close, but I don\'t think I would risk it....with a bow... Black powder or rifle it would be lights out! He wouldn\'t make it out of his bed.

I\'m with the wait guys.

At some point he will stand and hopefully give you a proper shot. If the thermals are going to change be ready to draw and when he smells you he will stand and look around. That\'s your shot then !

I\'m sure many of you have seen this, but here is the bone structure of an elk. I tried to find this of an elk that is bedded down but didn\'t have any luck. So I took the drawing and put what I believe is the shoulder and leg bones and where they should be. What do you guys think? This is what I envisioned when I placed that dot...there seems to be a heck of a lot of room there IMO.

After looking at this on my pc I think your dot was good. That being said....being a new elk hunter I am not sure I would be comfortable to take that shot. I probably wait.
