We hunt and enjoy the outdoors. Pictures are a huge part of it.
I was talking to my friend Larry. He is a great self taught picture taker. I have a degree (useless to me) in photography. I asked him,\" does it bum you out that there are no good pictures of you!\"
He started rolling with uncontrolled laughter. He knew exactly what I meant. We joked until our faces were sore from laughing.
What did I mean? When I take a picture of a friends animal, or a persons posing with an animal the image looks great. Composed. Me? I\'m centered or too far away.
Needs to be said. Two simple ideas to take better pics.
1. Get close. Closer than you think. Fill up the picture frame. If the background is part of the pic, pull back some. But unless the background IS the pic. Skooooch up there close.
2. Forget what you think about composition. Don\'t center the subject. Photographers call it: the golden rule of thirds. If you section the rectangle up into thirds in both directions. Where the lines intersect are the best places to put the subject.
The \"Subject\" can be just the antlers, the hunters face, etc. move the view finder around. Play around. We don\'t have to pay for film anymore. Delete us easy.
I shoot my brother first, show him the pic, and he can\'t mimic it. I\'m secretly happy he is all panned out so I have some flexibility when I edit/crop the image.
. I\'m bored now so I was reliving my Larry conversation and wanted to share. Hope this helps. Now let\'s get out there and make some great holiday photos!
