"Summer concentration areas"

Colorado Hunting Atlas identifies something called \"Summer Concentration Areas\". I know, I know, elk are where you find them...but who is putting together this information? We hunted inside a concentration area on Sunday. We maybe saw four piles of old elk crap. I mean, I parked and hunted inside the grid lines or hash marks of what the hunting atlas identifies as a concentration area and we hardly saw any sign elk had been in the area.

Where does this information come from?

That could be like the AGFC\'s weekly duck survey during duck season... :lol: :lol:

A quick primer on how to count ducks from a airplane... First you count heads then feet and multiply that total by 5 divided by 2 equal how many duck they saw when they were flying by at 160 MPH... You do that 70 or 80 time add the total of the total number of passes and divide by 2....
That figure is the total duck count for that week... :lol: :lol:

I have yet to figure out how they break it down in species but I\'m sure they have a way to do so since they will tell us how many mallard, pintail, wood duck and other ducks there are in that total.... :haha: :haha:

Lark, I honestly have no idea how they come up with those. Maybe a dart thrown at a map on the wall? I spoke with a wildlife officer this year about an area I want to check out for archery season that showed up as a summer concentration area, but he told me it was more of a winter range. That explained a lot to me :dk:

I\'ll need to remember the SWAG method for the next time someone ask me about the AGFC weekly aerial duck survey.... It\'s a lot easier to remember and a lot less typing... :lol: :lol:

Since my memory is so bad I\'ll have to write that down somewhere so I\'ll remember it and hope I remember where I wrote it down at... :? :? Another sticky note attached to the computer.. :mrgreen: :mrgreen:
