i used to hate them.  i got claustrophobic in them.  i mitigated that by buying a slightly bigger bag.  just the slight improvement in the Looseness feeling made it a non issue.

i hear folks complain since they are side sleepers.  that never made sense with me..zip in, turn to your side.  just bring the bag with you.  there is no need to rotate within the bag alone..just rotate the entire thing.

what do you do with your arms?  that is my achilles.  mummy bag?  hmm..let me try what i see the typical mummy will do...cross my arms in front of me..blaaa..uncomfy!.  keep them to your side?  haha..that gets old too.  if it is super cold and i have a jacket on..i stuff my hands in the pockets.  at home, i cross one arm under my head.  impossible in a mummy bag :)

i tried my new EE quilt this weekend.  it was maybe 22 degs at night and i froze my butt by midnight.  i woke up, zipped into my mummy, and was warm.  the next night was maybe single digits.  i slept fully dressed with a down jacket..in the mummy, with the quilt on top of that!!  everything froze.  my tent rain fly was rigid when i took it off..froze cracked off of it.

You should look into a Sierra Designs Backcountry bed. I have an 800 fill 20 degree bag of the older vintage, and it's by far the most comfortable bag I have ever used. Plenty of room to roll around, and you can sleep the same way you sleep in your bed at home.

I'm not really sure how to help you with where to put your arms, other than say, get more tired  :D Other things that really help, is making sure the sleeping bag is not too large and that you're completely dry when you get in it. Extra space in a bag will not help you stay warm. I personally don't like layering up inside my bag, because it makes it harder for the moisture to wick away from my body and out of the bag. I'll get clammy and cold. It's just not comfortable.

I'm curious what the rating is on your EE quilt, and what width you have? I've never had an issue with my quilts keeping me warm as long as I was using them within their respective temp ratings. I'm 5'10" 160lbs and all of my quilts are extra wide. Do I 'need' the added width... probably not, but it sure is nice to have when it gets chilly.
