i think (hope) my younger brother learned a lesson. haha.
we just got back from AZ hunting deer. it was COLD. waking up to 15deg is brutal for my sensitive california body. i had a GREAT time. i passed on some long shots, not because the feeding calm deer was beyond my range, but because the doe milling around might step in front of my arrow. we hunted Couse deer mostly, but we found some decent mulies in the flatter lands. every lunch time, we would swing our optics around and look at the 60 or so mule deer moving thru the river bottoms. as the week passed, the Mulies looked better and better. we had them patterned!!
this one great ambush spot gave us a clear 60 yard shot. at lunch, i jogged our target out to 60 and had my brother test his pin. whoa!! he hit it a lot of times, but not all the time. i totally became his hero..i could hit a softball every single time! my brother would obviously need to get closer.
closer didnt get it done. hahaha..we came home empty handed, but i watched my kid brother become one of the best spot and stalk guys ever. he could creep to 60 until the foliage ran out. i didnt hunt much, since i wanted him to take his first bow deer. he did an honest 3 stalks a day. his patience blossomed. it was fantastic.
i still suck. i push too hard and i clearly make too much noise. getting a 60 yarder shot would have been my dream.
AZ is my favorite hunt by far...i feel it, next year. deer down.
i\'ll keep shooting my bow at 100 yards. i cant believe how it improves my close shots. it\'s like throwing a soft pitch to a kid with a big fat glove.
