I am a Retired Master Sergeant of Marines....the down side is I retired 26 years ago.  Is 65 too old to hunt the second or third CO. Rifle Season?

Nope.
I'm 61 andI still go go go for elk or deer late,early,mid......well maybe just go. lol

Hell no Devil Dog! Be my inspiration. I'm closing in on 49, but dream of hunting elk until my legs fall off climbing the mountain. Like they said on our humps "Suck it up Buttercup". You can do it, just do some easy conditioning, i.e. - walking, and take it easy on the hunt. If you get tired, sit, take a break & enjoy the outdoors. Know your limits & don't push yourself beyond it. Have a hunting buddy, keep your cell phone on you, and if you don't get reception take an InReach or sat phone. Always plan for worst case scenario so have a 1st aid/survival kit with you, local ranger #'s, and let people know where you'll be & check in with them.
Btw, semper fi. Chewed dirt with 1/3 & 2/2 Warlords.

Thanks Marine.  I will most likely be hunting with my wife.  She is a trout fishing addict so we may put a plan together where I can hunt some morning and evenings and watch her fish while i snooze through the day.  I was with 2/2 in '70.

First off, thank you for your service!

I STARTED hunting last year at 62!  Well, restarted.  I hadn't hunted for over 35 years.  Went up to Mt. Zirkel wilderness area in Colorado 2nd rifle.  Since I live at 6200 ft elevation, the altitude wasn't too bad for me.  Went up to 10,000 ft but the elk were higher due to hot weather.  Going back this year 4th rifle season!

You are never to old. One of the guys in a camp close to ours every year has a guy who is 76 this year and he still hikes like a 50 year old. He does stay is good shape all year which helps. My dad who I still hunt with is the same age but he doesn't take the time to work out so we find a nice flat spot for him to go into, sit, call and wait for game. He had two opportunities at cows last year but they just didn't cooperate. So just plan you hunt according to what your capabilities are and you will be fine. And Good Luck!
