I have just started hunting out of a tree stand for elk......it has been fun but not successful....yet....

Anyone out there who gets it done every year out of a stand??  I really thought last year was goin be it but once the season came around all my bulls on my cam slowly went away.....guess I need to move to a new location.

Water, Water, Water. Look for Wallows Fresh wallows while you are hunting. hang a stand ans til it for the next two days. Also when putting out trail cams concentrate on capturing cows rather than bulls during the rut they will show up where the cows are.

Elk Assassin.....I hear you bout the cows....I had a spot that had a great group of cows using my salt everyday.....once the season started they were around for a week or so then I had some people really hit the area hard.....uggg....all those cows got pushed away before the bulls even thought to come for them....oh well....

run and gun mornings and evening then sit wallows in the afternoon. It will increase your odds significantly and running with the elk is way more fun than just sitting in a tree

i dont have the patience to sit either. i like the run and gun, spot and stalk.  to me, hunting out of a stand is like fishing with a bobber. not exciting. maybe thats why i like bass fishing as well. id rather chase down the fish and find where they live and see what theyll bite on. just like elk hunting.!!

I love the run and gun, Tried to sit a treestand on a hot wallow for one full day. Made it thru the day and swore I would never sit a stand for elk again but I have some friends that hunt about 20 miles from me and it seems to work ok for them they don't kill as consistently as we do but they do have success.
