I just wanted to throw a quick shout out regarding this app. This is the first year I gave it a try and all I can say is I will probably never have a use for a GPS again. This FREE app was outstanding! Even in areas where you don\'t have cell service, it will show you exactly where you are on a topo map. It will also track your route for you, showing you exactly where you walked. You can also pull the details from that, including how far you went.
There are two keys to using this app, especially if it\'s going to be in an area where you don\'t have service. The first trick is to pull up the topo map of where you will be ahead of time in a place where you have service. Zoom in and out all around the areas you plan to be in. That will pre-load the maps on your phone, so they will show up even when you don\'t have service. The second trick is to just put your phone in airplane mode to save battery life. By doing this, it used very little of my battery. I just made sure I charged my phone once every day or two and shut the phone off when I wasn\'t using it.
Gone are the days of pulling out a GPS and a map and figuring out where you are based on longitude and latitude!
