Cliff just had a very good post regarding binocs and spotting scopes. He also made a comment about certain tripods being better than others. So let\'s hear it from those who have experience with these: what tripods have you used, which ones work best, what to look for in a good tripod, etc.

i\'ll end this thread here.

and i wont bust the bank.

Slik 624CF tripod. carbon fiber, and very light. compact. it is the short version, so you have to be sitting to use it. i never stand and use a tripod. best to be small and less for deer to see, less wind, less movement, you\'re not standing..but sitting and resting.

i LOVE pan heads. i can get the tension just about pefect and i can slide the binos around doing my \"grid-search\" of the next hill by pushing it around with my eye sockets. just sliiiiiiide to the next position, quit moving and it just sits there while i break down the hiding spots. you dont know how many times i\'m staring at an empty deer-less spot..blink, or turn to talk to someone, look back and BAM! there\'s a deer.

my panhead is Vanguard PH-111. get an extra quick release plate and you can swap between spotter and bino within seconds.

my outfitter had one and it was awesome.

You could unscrew the cradle that held your gun and he would screw on an attachment that held his binos.
I will be ordering one
