I found out some news and I am a little.... meh about it, but it\'s ok, I plan to make the best of it.
As some of you know I am in the military and that means I go where ever Uncle Sam needs me, well Uncle Sam decided he needs me in Florida.
Some people who are in the military would stone me if they knew I was torn on going to Florida, but hey, everyone has their own opinions.
I was stationed in Florida when I first joined and I had a ball.
At the time I was 18-22 and experiencing my first taste of freedom. Beautiful women, partying, blah blah blah.
Fast forward to now I am married, go to bed at 2100 every night and don\'t drink. So naturally I am not drawn back to that kind of lifestyle.
To add, I am really established here in NM now and I am spoiled with the hunting opportunities. Plus, I was GUNNING to go back to a place with four seasons or at least a winter with snow.
So when I found out about the news, I had a few seconds of being
However, that is not me. Ask anyone who knows me and I like to make the best of everything.
So:
- To start I was hired for a FANTASTIC position that will have such a great impact on my career. A long time mentor groomed me and set me up for this position and I am in his debt for this. I\'ll be working in a position where I have the opportunity to learn so many things and become a better leader, manager, and just person in general. In simple terms, this has the potential to set me up for E8 and E9 before I retire.
Also, it\'s only a 3 year gig, so I am not locked in Florida forever. So after my time is up I\'ll potentially be on my way somewhere else!
Positive: Great career opportunity and great chance to learn a bunch and better my future.
- Next, my wife grew up in a military family. Her dad served 21 years, so she was used to moving around a lot. When he retired he picked up a contracting job on base and they have been here for the last 13 years. So she is ITCHING to try somewhere new. So she is SO HAPPY about this move, which I don\'t think I need to explain the positive in this.... Happy wife, Happy life!!!!
- I am going to hunt and fish even more than I do now!!!!!!! Where I am right now I can draw NM hunts and hunt Oklahoma for whitetail (4 hour drive)
Where I am going now I will be in realistic driving distance to Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, Tennessee, Kentucky and I get to hunt Florida. So now I am able to hunt evenings, weekends, and over the holidays without having to take massive trips. The SE is also very good to military members and I can get resident tags because I am active duty. They also have large yearly bag limits! While Florida and Alabama are known for little deer, I can still shoot a bunch. Then I have places like TN, MS, and KY to shoot monsters! Not only do I have whitetail, but now I also have lots of hogs and turkeys to chase.
So a positive is all of you can come visit me for a hog, turkey, and fishing trip :upthumb:
BEST PART OF ALL, is I keep my New Mexico residency. SO I am able to still draw western hunts every year.
So basically my big trips will be western hunts and everything else will be close. If you guys thought I hunted a lot before, just you wait......
Another perk is I move AFTER this years elk season, so watch out elk.
There are lots more positives and they completely bulldoze the negatives, so I am chipper and ready for a new experience.
TLDR :haha:
