Friday morning we made the drive out to Cambridge and Medicine Creek SWA where we had a cabin reserved for the weekend.
After getting our gear stashed away in the cabin we headed over to Holbrook to hunt a little bit of private land that I have permission on.
Getting settled in to the blind it wasn\'t too long before the first bunch of birds came through but just out of range for a good bow shot.
A bit later my son Josh missed the first tom that came in as the bird saw him draw and started moving out at the release.
At 7:00 pm a bunch of hens with 3 toms in tow started working their way towards us. The first tom was drumming and strutting at 30 yards when I center punched him. He flopped a couple of times and the other toms took his position and started working a bit closer. I switched places with Josh and said 15 yards. At the release the tom stood and looked around then headed off in the opposite direction taking the hens and the other tom with him.
No blood on the arrow and just a few feathers clipped.
Saturday we hunted the public land and hadn\'t seen a bird until we were heading back towards the campground. Spotting a group with a couple of toms we parked and worked in close. Once I spotted the first couple of hens about 40 yards away in some cedars I popped up the blind and Josh climbed in.
A couple of calls and two jakes came on the run where Josh dropped one at 25 yards.
It was a quick hunt for us and we had a blast as usual when turkey hunting.
The birds are breaking up into smaller groups but I did see one group last night with about 75 as they headed towards the roost.
