Hello all,
I drew the unit 18 archery tag for Hells Canyon and I was wondering if anyone has hunted there before. I have made a couple scouting trip already to see the lay of the land and do some looking for sign. It seems like locating elk isn't going to be the problem but getting them out is. I am a solo hunter so its just gonna be me on this trip. Does anyone have any advice about hiring a packer? I have never had to deal with them but i think i might need one on this trip.
As far as scouting goes I have scoped out basically the only three access points to the wilderness(Heavens Gate, Seven Devils Loop, and Cold Springs) I am planning on focusing my efforts from these areas. Is there a lot of hunting pressure from these trailheads? Is it worth looking at some of the areas outside the wilderness? Am i insane for hunting this area alone? Just looking for a few pearls of wisdom, if anyone has some to share. Thanks and good luck on the upcoming season.
