Utah Youth Any Bull Units

Hey! I drew the youth any bull tag for Utah. I've never elk hunted before, but I've narrowed it down to two units: South Slope, and San Juan, Montezuma Canyon. Seems like south slope receives a lot of hunting pressure, but is it possible to hike past everyone else? I wouldn't be using an ATV. I'm willing to walk a few miles if necessary. Also, would I expect to be calling more, or looking for watering holes?
