Family Vacation Suggestions

Here\'s the Stats:
25 th anniversary coming up. Looking for a vacation trip for my wife and two girls, 16 and 20. Have about $5,000-$10,000 budgeted and a couple years to make it happen. Looking for any and all ideas for this trip. We\'ve been to Glacier and Rocky Mountain National parks and have enjoyed them, and Florida several times and have enjoyed the beach but are done with the whole Disney thing. Would like at least 7 days not including travel for relaxing and adventure.
Never been to Alaska so that is on the radar, fly or cruise. Anything outside the box that you\'ve done that would make a good vacation?

Barry,

Can I be a temporary member of your family and come with you?
:upthumb:

I would say Alaska cruise, but the whole time you\'re there you\'ll be thinking about hunting and fishing. Maybe save an Alaska trip for where you can do both a vacation/some fun time???

Do you guys have passports?

i love Thailand. so inexpensive once you are there. like a big bowl of great noodles is like a buck!! and it oozes with that \"oh-o..we aren\'t in Kansas anymore\" feeling. you feel so far from home!!!

or if you want to stay in this hemisphere, i think Canada. Vancouver..or the other end..Quebec would be fantastic. gah..i love vacation planning.

A wife and two girls....

Marseille France comes to mind.
It\'s the French Riviera.

I did work for the government there for 6 months and it was actually really nice.

Beautiful beaches, lots of shopping, good food and great weather.
The girls would love it. You may enjoy the beaches ;)

England is always an amazing time. I lived there for 3 years and you could set up a nice adventure all over the United kingdom.

Scotland, Wales, etc etc.

Bermuda, puerto rico....etc...

Barry, we went to Alaska this year and more than happy to answer any questions. Assuming everyone\'s \"outdoorsy\", we went on an all day kayak trip that was great! Kayaking was only 3-4 hours of the 12 hour or more trip.

Here are the highlights. Send me a PM if you\'d like more. Gone 8 days total.

Denver to Anchorage
Stay night in Anchorage
Rental car and drive to Homer
Board boat for overnight halibut fishing trip
Next day get back, fish off to processor then drive to Seward
Next day all day kayak trip
All day salmon fishing
Rest day - walk around town and aquatic center
Return to Anchorage for 2 nights - flight seeing trip over Denali and Mt McKinley

This is great thread.

I dont travel. Never have.
Maybe someday I will and this will be some great info to have

It would be great if you could go somewhere they have always wanted to see. My suggestions will probably be useless, but I would like to see New England this time of year, and visit some of the great historical places in that region.

I can always assist with this. I grew up in New England and there is LOTS of great places to see. :upthumb:

Lots of great suggestions so far. NZ might be a little out of range $$. Russ, ball park what you guys spent on the whole trip. If we go to AK then we have to decide to fly or cruise and the limitations of each. With the cruise I think your land \"play time\" is limited.

I\'ll add that we live in the Upper Midwest and I have driven to Montreal and flew to Quebec on a caribou hunt but have never been further east than Chicago. My wife has been to western PA. And when I say Upper, I mean we can get to Canada in about 2 1/2 hrs.

Barry, ballpark $8K for 2 for everything including meals. But, we did splurge on a few things: upgraded our airline seats on all flights($300 more), Aialik bay kayak trip was $1K, flightseeing trip was another $1K, one dinner in Anchorage was around $300 with wine.

I\'ve got it all broke down and can send via Private Message if you want.

Russ
