If bivy hunting and you have your camp gear on your back, hunting a wallow until dark, would you camp there or move off  50 -100+ yards to camp?
CON-You would be setting up camp in the dark after moving away.
PRO-Staying there you would be there at daylight if elk were there or coming there. Just not certain they would like my snoring... :D

I wouldn't camp anywhere near it. I would be at least 1/2 mile to a mile away. Even if I had to set up camp in pitch black. If you are worried about setting camp after dark and are familiar with where you are, go set up camp during daylight and come back to hunt the wallow until dark.

No do not camp on it. Your scent will be all over that wallow and could ruin it for ever. Set up a camp in the day light 1/2 mile away and then just go there after dark. Buy a head lamp... LOL.

Ghost is correct, a mile is not that far to walk to that would be a good distance to camp away from the wallow.

That's pretty much what I expected. I know a spot that would be sweet to camp on a wallow, but figured that would be too much scent on it. Just wondering if anyone ever did try it. I got a nice Petzel headlamp and can easily be out of the dark timber in a quarter mile. Base camp is about 3 miles from the wallow, so I will likely put up a bivy camp closer. I have actually made that hike several times from base camp in the dark, so it's doable also.

Good God man your funk will infect the entire area,  not a good idea at all. If you feel that you need to be somewhat close I'd say at least one click from your ambush site.  Sounds like you know the trail so hump in way before light and good luck.
